All-gender sanitary facilities under NCC 2025
The NCC 2025 preview introduces an optional Deemed-to-Satisfy pathway allowing all-gender compartments alongside traditional male and female facilities in Class 2 to 9 buildings.
How the substitution works
Where a building has two fixtures, both can convert to all-gender. With three fixtures, one all-gender substitute is permitted while one male and one female facility are retained. With four or more, up to half can convert, balanced between the male and female provision.
Each all-gender compartment needs to be single-occupant: a WC, handbasin, sanitary disposal, and full-height privacy partitions opening onto non-gendered circulation space.
Why it's worth considering beyond the minimum
Aside from supporting gender-diverse users, the layout change tends to cut queuing significantly, particularly for women's facilities, and works well for families, carers, and anyone who needs an accessible cubicle without navigating a gendered space to reach it.
