Visual Indicators on Fully Glazed Doors and Side Lights
A fully glazed door or side light is invisible to someone with a vision impairment unless it's marked. A visual indicator gives that glass surface a detectable edge.
The BCA calls this up at D3.3(c) through AS 1428.1, alongside AS 1288 for the glazing itself.
Getting it right
The indicator needs to be a solid, continuous line at least 75mm high, positioned 900–1000mm above floor level, running the full width of the glazed panel, with at least 30% luminance contrast against whatever's behind it. A indicator that technically exists but doesn't meet the contrast requirement isn't much use to the people it's there for.
